M Basket Mažeikiai (Lithuanian: Mažeikių M Basket), also known as M Basket-Delamode Mažeikiai for sponsorship reasons, is a professional basketball club based in Mažeikiai, Lithuania. The club finished as a runner-up in the 2022–23 National Basketball League season, which was enough for the promotion to the Lithuanian Basketball League for the 2023–24 season.
History
BC Mažeikiai was founded in 2005 by Mažeikiai government and various businessmen. In 2013, Mažeikiai finished as champions of the National Basketball League and consequently should have been promoted to LKL, the top basketball league in Lithuania. However Mažeikiai had to stay in NKL because they do not have LKL arena–passing requirements, winning a second NKL title. They debuted in the LKL in 2014. They were relegated back to the NKL next season after a disastrous season. They returned to the LKL for the 2023-2024 season.
O BC Lietkabelis foi fundado em 1964 na cidade de Mazeikiai. O clube mudou-se para Panevėžys em 2007 e adotou o nome atual. O BC Lietkabelis conquistou o Campeonato Lituano de Basquetebol quatro vezes, em 2015, 2016, 2017 e 2018. O clube também conquistou a Copa da Lituânia duas vezes, em 2014 e 2019.
O BC Lietkabelis é um dos clubes de basquetebol mais bem-sucedidos da Lituânia. O clube tem uma forte base de fãs e é conhecido por sua atmosfera vibrante nos jogos em casa. O BC Lietkabelis também tem uma forte tradição de formação de jovens jogadores, e muitos dos melhores jogadores da Lituânia passaram pelo clube.
O atual elenco do BC Lietkabelis inclui vários jogadores talentosos, como o armador Mantas Kalnietis, o ala-armador Vytenis Lipkevicius e o pivô Martynas Echodas. O clube é treinado por Nenad Čanak, um técnico experiente que já levou o BC Lietkabelis a vários títulos.
